The Nature of Information
The Nature of Information is about signs and how different people could find the meaning of a sign different than someone else. For example, a sign that we see in America might not have the same meaning as the exact same sign that we see in any other country. It's all about the context in which we take it. Some signs mean different things. That's all there is to it. Although we might have very different signs, we can also have a universal sign that everyone can identify with. For example, a sign that everyone in every country is familiar with is a smile. A smile is like saying hello and is meant this way in every country. It is a universal sign of communication.
Sometimes symbols are used instead of signs. Symbols are used to identify with something instead of giving direction. Some symbols are new and others date all the way back to the Aztec and Egyptian eras.
Collectively I think we can see what the main purpose for a sign or a symbol would be; it is a necessary way in which we communicate.
